You were never more beautiful,
On the night the moths danced.
I answered your goofy question,
With one of my own.
You asked if they loved the light,
Why didn’t they come out in the daytime.
I said it’s because in the day,
The light finds them.
I asked if you belived in dreams.
If you believed people could meet and affect each others dreams from within those dreams.
You said “Meet me tonight in my dream and we’ll compare”
You turned to go.
Your eyes flickered in the dim light of evening.
You had a playfulness in your smile,
And l never missed something so much since.
We went to a dance but never danced.
Instead we made up sentances,
Word by word.
I
Want
Something
To
Happen
Tonight
And something did.
You floated away in your lilac dress,
And l was left holding nothing but muddy, cold water.
And now all these years later,
I return to you,
Return to find no ghost.
Just the empty space in my heart,
Where you used to live.
And where you still remain.
